White Dots WS3It’s normal to have questions about therapy, especially if you’ve never experienced it before!  Below are my answers to the most common questions about therapy. If you have questions that aren’t shown here, please feel free to call me or email me with them and I would be happy to answer them for you.

What can I expect from therapy?

Therapy is a lot what you make it! The more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it. You can expect to have a safe, calm environment where you can speak about whatever you’d like and work on whatever you want or need to. I will never attempt to make you talk about anything you don’t want to or are too uncomfortable to talk about, or aren’t quite ready to talk about at the time. Therapy can be and is incredibly rewarding, and just like anything that brings in such a reward, it also can be difficult. That being said, I will weather the storm with you and you don’t have to do it alone. Many people experience feelings of relief and hope even from the first session.

What is the first session like?

Prior to our first session there is a bit of intake paperwork to be filled out and submitted electronically (which is completely confidential). I will direct you to the link (on the “fees” page) and password to access said paperwork once we have scheduled our first session. When you arrive at the office there is a waiting area with magazines and water where you can wait for me to come out at our designated appointment time and bring you into the room. In our first session I will go over confidentiality and what that looks like, including the few limits to it, as well as a couple other “housekeeping”-type things. I will then have you sign the paperwork you filled out prior to the session, and we will proceed from there to what brings you in and what you’d like to talk about. If you have any questions you are more than welcome to ask them at any time, of course.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself! The paperwork we need is all online, so there is nothing extra you’d need to bring. Some clients like to bring notes they write to remind themselves of what they’d like to talk about, but it isn’t necessary unless you find it to be so.

Is the office location easy to find and where can I park?

It is indeed pretty easy to find. It is in the South Placer Business Park across from the Roseville Auto Mall on Lead Hill, between Sunrise Avenue and Rocky Ridge Drive. If you enter the parking lot via the second parking lot entrance (if heading from Sunrise) or the first parking lot entrance (if you’re coming from Rocky Ridge), it’ll be the building on your immediate right. You can park anywhere you like.

Are there a certain number of sessions I can/should attend?

You ultimately get to decide how many sessions you attend. I do recommend weekly sessions, though sometimes circumstances better suit bi-weekly or even two sessions per week, which is something we can discuss, but the large majority of clients attend one session each week. I usually recommend attending for at least 6-10 weeks, though there is no limit on how long you attend or how many sessions you ultimately have with me. It is not uncommon for clients to attend anywhere between 6 weeks and a year or two. It simply depends on what it is you want to get from therapy, what struggles you’re going through, and the level of challenge in achieving the change/growth/healing/etc. that you are looking for. We can always discuss at any time how you feel it is going and if or when you’re feeling that therapy has been completed for you.

Do you do video conferencing?

Yes I do offer video conferencing for sessions, depending on need and circumstances. Please feel free to ask about this if you feel you need video conference sessions!
